WHY GREEN
Electricity is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States—responsible for 38 percent of the emissions. As demand for electricity rises, so do greenhouse gas emissions. That's because most of our electrical-power supply comes from non-renewable power like coal and nuclear plants. And while we benefit from the electricity, the downside is that these resources pollute our air, land, and water—and contribute to global climate change
Another Choice: Renewable Energy

Thankfully, there are other options for power: renewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources, such as solar electric, wind, geothermal, biomass, and small and low-impact hydro, can be used to produce electricity without the same negative impact on the environment. By making electricity from renewable energy sources, electricity can be made without producing greenhouse gas emissions.
But how do you access renewable energy sources? For many—including our company— the most practical way is by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). These certificates are created by an authorized renewable energy facility that generates electricity. At TreeCentric, we purchase these certificates, which essentially displace the need for other non-renewable sources to provide us power.
A renewable energy facility like a windmill farm, for instance, creates the credits
that we purchase by displacing energy that would otherwise be generated by
a non-renewable energy facility like a coal plant.
